Freezing Man Festival

I went to Freezing Man Festival In Edmonton this weekend. It was a meeting of indie and electronica on a freezing Saturday night.
There were amusement rides indoors run completely on vegetable oil as well as wind power.

There was a fashion show while a DJ scratched

Broken Social Scene Oct 8, 2010 McEwan Hall, Calgary

So I was lucky enough to see Broken Social Scene again this year in Calgary. I had previously seen them in May in Amsterdam, in 2007 in Calgary and then in 2005 in Toronto. Never a bad show from these guys! This time we were lucky enough to meet most of the band. We got to meet Apostle of Hustle, Andrew Whiteman, Sam Goldberg, Brendan Canning and Justin Peroff. You can see our passes below. Overall a great show and they have certainly hit their stride being on tour almost the whole year already and then shortly going back to Europe for the third time this year. The set was over 2 hours long and tracks ranged from all three main albums, and the track "Love is New" from Brendan Canning's Solo LP "Something for all of Us." They even played their "Friday Song" which was lifted ala Rage Against the Machines lyrics "Fuck You I Won't Do What You Tell Me". This was a much bigger show then the one we saw in Amsterdam and I was blown away in the vast difference in age of the crowd. Highlight of the night was meeting the band after the show and getting to have an in depth talk about Alberta Political leanings with the Apostle of Hustles, Andrew Whiteman! Notice the picture of him, Sam Goldberg and myself outside of their bus.
They have a few more Canadian dates left on the tour. If you are on the west coast...... don't miss this show. This is Canadian music history revealing itself before your eyes..................... enjoi

Arcade Fire September 26, 2010

So I finally got to see Montreal's finest the Arcade Fire in Calgary at the Corral (old hockey rink). They had just released their third album the Suburbs weeks ago and to say that live these songs sounded nothing less then epic would be an understatement. I have seen many live shows in Calgary and I always have found that the "Alberta crowd" is usually a quiet crowd. However the band had the entire crowd singing from the start to the finish and it gave me goosebumps. Overall an amazing show and would highly recommend seeing the band any chance your get. Highlight of the night: No Cars Go.

So I am going to see Arcade Fire tonight and it got me thinking of what bands I really want to see live that I haven't yet. Living in Calgary about 20% of touring acts make it to Alberta the rest only stop in Vancouver and Toronto if the come to Canada at all which means we don't always get to see our favourite bands but here's the list just in case there watching and now they know to come to Calgary hahah.

1) RADIOHEAD (any time I have tried to get tickets to these guys it sells out in 2 min and I don't think they have ever played Calgary?)

2)Paul McCartney (last time I had a chance to see him in Toronto I was travelling in England....how ironic)

3)Michael Franti and Spearhead (again, Blew me away with a short set at Calgary Folk Fest, would love to see a full length concert, the positivity in incredible at these shows)

4) Weird Al Yankovic (have always been a fan, and since i was 8 years old have wanted to see him live, it just seems we are never in the same city at the same time......hopefully next year.)

5) Brian Setzer (One of my favourite guitar players and big band leaders, I would kill to see any incarnation of act he is touring with. My top choice would be to see him with his orchestra around Christmas or if I was really lucky with a reunited Stray Cats.

6) JAMIE T (British rapper/rocker ... think Joe Strummer meets beats in 2010, high energy but has yet to come to Canada. I think i'm gonna have to go to a European festival to ever see this guy)

7) DAFT PUNK ( I love Alive and know these guys would be one of the most high energy shows you could attend with out a doubt)

8) Foxboro Hot Tubs / The Network (Secret side projects of Green Day who seem to only make appearences in the East Bay or New York. Dear Green Day; Is there a chance Foxboro Hot Tubs or The Network could ever open up for you? I know that means you will be playing for 4 hours straight but we would love it!)

9) KEVIN DREW of Broken Social Scene (I saw him live when his solo album Spirit IF came out and it was amazing, unfortunately BSS don't play any solo stuff on tour, but i still go to every BSS show I can. I would just love to hear Spirit If songs live again)

10) Apostle of Hustle ( Featuring Andrew Whiteman of Broken Social Scene. Love to see him live, love all the Apostle albums and BSS don't play solo stuff on tour so hopefully they tour again. His guitar playing will quickly put you in awe)

Uncle Neil came to Calgary again so I had to go.
This was my third time seeing him, the first with Crosby Stills and Nash, the second with Crazy Horse and the third all by himself. He performed solo while at times playing , guitar, harmonica, organ or piano.

We also got to hear a ton of new songs from his upcoming album with producer Daniel Lanois. Overall a great performance and Uncle Neil still definitely got it. Set list below. If you don't recognize the title its probably new.

Michael Franti & Spearhead, Calgary Folk Fest

I went to this years Calgary Folk Fest to see Michael Franti & Spearhead. They were supposed to play last years folk fest but because Michael was suffering from a burst Appendix his appearance was cancelled. Being the nice guy he is he comes back to make up the gig when he really didn't have to.

He was promoting his soon to be album coming out September 21, 2010 called the Sound of Sunshine so we got to enjoy some new songs such as Shake It and the Sound of Sunshine.

My favourite song was Everyone Deserves Music, as he seemed to preform it faster then he recorded it and it really seemed to step the already great song up a notch in a live situation.

He brought a bunch of kids on the stage to sing Say Hey (I Love You) which was cool and even had a wedding proposal on the stage. Overall amazing concert and I wound highly recommend that anyone has the chance check him out.

We took what looks like an Army truck up 3/4 Mt Vesuvius. It was extremely winding and bumpy.

Then we walked for 30 min to the top of the volcano.
We saw tons of little lizards and the path was made of volcanic rock.

After a few days in Roma, we took a train to Napoli. It was quite the happy change from the crazy streets of Roma.

Napoli is where pizza is thought to be invented and Kaely had the mozzarella and artichoke wood fired pizza.

I had the mozzarella, tomato, basil. It's called a Margherita
it was definitely the best pizza I ever had in my life. And it was 4 Euro. I could live on that for the the rest of my life!

After a long 3 week wait from our last trip cancellation due to the Iceland volcano Eyjafgallajokull's eruption we finally made it to Europe. First we took a 9 and a half hour flight from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to London, England. We then waited a few ours and then took a 51 minute flight from London, England to Amsterdam, Netherlands.

We are on a train from Schipol (Amsterdam) Airport to Central station in the heart of Amsterdam

This is the Bulldog and where we stayed for the first 2 nights of our trip. The hostel had a bar and restaurant and was actually very nice and clean and right on a canal.

Two days after our arrival from Europe it was concert time again with communal living Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's. We saw these guys at McEwan Hall at the U of C and again it was a tiny show which was amazing. They only have one album so far called Up From Below so they pretty much played all of that. If you haven't checked them out yet give em a listen you won't be disappointed. Also check you local festival to see if there playing as they're on tour all summer.

So we did finally make it to Europe and i will post all about that soon, but first while in Europe since our trip was re-scheduled for 3 weeks later we were able to catch Toronto's favourite band Broken Social Scene, just as they released their new album Forgiveness Rock Record. We spent the day riding bicycles around Amsterdam's beautiful Vondelpark and then we headed to the Concert. Another small venue. No more than 600 people here. Very cool pub/concert hall and the band was amazing as usual. I believe they were a 9 piece in Amsterdam.....but it could have been 8. They played a mixture of their three albums as well as a Pavement cover. Kaely bought a poster at the show (shown above) and ended up leaving it on a train to Napoli by accident. When she got back to Canada she emailed them and told them the story hoping to buy another (if there were any left as the pressing was limited to 100 copies) as she claimed it was her favourite souvenir from the entire European adventure. They happily sent a replacement free saying,"Amsterdam can be a crazy place." Good people for sure! I will support Broken Social Scene and the Arts & Crafts label as much as I can for sure. I am super glad we made the concert and it was so good I already bought tickets to see them again in Calgary in the fall.

Can't go to Europe, then eat CAKE

Well we were all set to fly to England and start our European journey and a volcano erupts and all flights to Europe are cancelled for a week. What luck. The first day they let planes out was the same day as our original flight. So we sat in the airport for the afternoon assuming we were going to England, then 30 minutes before the flight its definitely a no go, passengers must have a British passport to get on the plane as they have been stranded in Calgary for the last week by the Icelandic wonder Eyjafgallajokull. So what do you do when your dreams have been crushed........ Go see CAKE! Once we found out that CAKE was coming to town when we were supposed to be in Europe we were pretty bummed...wanting to see them for quite a while.
We quickly left the airport and headed for the University of Calgary to see if there was still tickets and luckily there was. We then got to see one of the tightest bands I've seen in a while. It was a tiny show, I would say no more then 650. The band was great and even gave a tree to a lucky fan to plant in her yard and to keep the band updated with photos of the trees progress.. something they do at every show. Overall it was great to re-live some 90's greats. Even the new material sounded great... Release date coming soon..............

Arctic Monkeys

The last of the new vinyl is another UK band Arctic Monkeys. This is there first two LP's. The Arctic Monkeys have been billed as the next Beatles.....but as I am a huge Beatles fan I wouldn't go that far but they are definitely a very fun band. Very upbeat and you cannot beat the British accents that you can actually hear on the albums. Young guys who in my opinion have a lot going on and could probably make a long career out of this. Too bad every time they come to Toronto it sells out in 4 minutes. Maybe next time. The first album is called Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not and it is a very upbeat rock album that could be played at any dance club. The second is Your Favourite Worst Nightmare which is equally as good. Something tells me these guys have no trouble writing songs which hopefully means a lot of releases in the future....Until then .........

Bloc Party

Some more editions to my record collection. These two are from the UK group Bloc Party. These two records finish off my Bloc Party collection until they decide to release another album. The first is Silent Alarm which is there first full length release and has three records within it. Great album to say the least. The second is their newest LP A Weekend In the City which is also a very good listen. I would personally describe Bloc Party as electronic beat meets rock n roll of the 21st century. Something tells me if Radiohead never came along these guys wouldn't exist or at least not have the great sound that they have created that is truly their own. I saw them live last summer in Toronto and it is well worth the price to check these guys out, you will be blown away by the vocals and how tight the band is especially the amazing drummer............waiting for them to come back to Canada..............

New Vinyl: Radiohead

Well it has been a few months since I have posted up here so now it's time to add some new vinyl that I have acquired since the beginning of the summer. You may notice that there is a a bit of a British rock motif going on here but that is only because to me personally the Brit's seem to be doing the most interesting stuff these days, I would love to take in a festival over there to learn of some new bands but since I am an university graduate now without a job I will have to dream instead. The two albums here are Radioheads - The Bends , and OK Computer . In my opinion the bands best two albums even though they are all amazing. These are pictures of Joe Strummer from the Clash famous guitars. Also Paul's smashed bass from the iconic cover of London Calling. There was a special exhibit on the Clash when we went which was well worth the trip for me. It was amazing seeing some of Joe Strummers stuff and actually being able to get close to it. Finally there is a picture of me and Kaely on the sign on the way out of the museum.

Over my reading week a bunch of my friends and I travelled to Cleveland so that we could visit the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. This is the sixth installment of Rock N Roll Spots. This is a museum and hall of fame dedicated to Rock N Roll. It is in Cleveland because that is the city Alan Freed coined the term Rock N Roll. Here are some pictures of the museums, some exhibits of the British invasion. Paul Simonon from the Clashs leather jacket and ZZ Tops infamous '33 roadster. The pictures aren't that good because you were not supposed to take pictures in there so I had to sneak them, but that is a different story all together. I will post some more as I get them from my friends.

Bloc Party

I just recently bought the Bloc Party album Silent Alarm Remixed. It is a 2x12 vinyl release. Bloc Party are an extremely energetic and very different band from England. This music makes me want to move immediately to England. Their new album is very good as well and I hope to eventually get it on vinyl but it is a very expensive import from the UK. Anyways check these guys out and you be happily surprised as long as you like you rock and roll with a beat you find yourself dancing to.

Tragically Hip

I saw the Tragically Hip in Hamilton at Copps Coliseum recently. I have to say they are an extremely tight band. Gord went completely mental for 2 hours straight. Highlights of the show were Fiddlers Green, Wheat Kings and Ahead By a Century. These guys are so Canadian its not even funny. Its amazing to believe they have been around for so long. Well I also thought it may be time to add onto my Guns N Roses collection. A while back I saw Guns N Roses (AXLs Guns N Roses) again and it brought back that fire that GNR has brought to my life for so long haha I think I can tie every funny/amazing/ridiculous moment of high school to a Guns N Roses song. Here is the Welcome to the Jungle single and GNR Lies/Live Like a Suicide LP's. GNR Lies is the follow up to Appetite for Destruction and it has 4 new songs and 4 live from '86. Well worth a listen!

Well I have been on a bit of a record binge again lately so here is some of my newest purchases. Jimi Hendrix- AXIS Bold as Love is a great album. One of only a few real albums Hendrix released. The album art is unreal. Imagine that tatooed onto someone......... The next is Led Zeppelin- In Through the Out Door. A later but still amazing 'Zep record. I think its time I started working on my Zeppelin collection. Anyways more to come............

Well as my Christmas shopping heats up, I decided to take a break and buy something for myself. The newest addition to my record collection is Nofx's 12" LP , So Long and Thanks for all the Shoes. This is by far my favourite Nofx album as it was the one that turned me on to the band. I remember in 1997 when this came out, hearing it from a friend and thinking 'holy shit I didn't know someone could drum that fast." Anyways this has been on my want list for a few years and now it seems it is back in print. I bought it at www.interpunk.com for $10. A deal and a half if you ask me. This album takes me back to grade 7/8 and the start of my love for fast punk music.........

Guns N Roses Round Two

Well I can say I have seen all the original members of Guns N Roses except Izzy but It is now my turn to say whether I would want to see Axls touring band (Guns N' Roses) or Slash, Duff and Matts (Velvet Revolver). I have seen both (GNR twice, VR once and Slash's Snakepit once). Although I love Slash and Duff I am sure I would pay more money and be more likely to go see Axl's new band featuring Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortuis, Robin Fink, Brain, Bumblefoot and Tommy Stinson. This show was amazing! Axl is on top of his game again and he even slimmed down for this tour. The show started with an opening band called Die Mannequin. Then there was a burlesque show by a group called the Suicide Girls (very interesting opening band for a concert!) Then came on Toronto's own, Sebastian Bach and he was pretty good. He brought the Trailer Park Boys out with him (Ricky, Julian and Bubbles) and Bubbles played guitar and sang his tune Liquor and Whores. Then around 11:45 Guns N Roses took the stage. The Saints are Coming U2 & Green Day

I recently got the CD and 7" single for the collaboration of U2 and Green Day of the Skids song, the Saints are Coming. I got the CD single at a HMV in St Catharines and I got the 7" single as and import from England and bought it at Interpunk. All money goes to charity so in the end this is a nice collectors piece. Here's the promotional blurb. These 2 musical giants got together at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios in September 2006 with producer Rick Rubin and collaborated on a cover version of the Skids classic taken from U2's forthcoming definitive collection. The studio version comes with a previously unreleased live recording of the title track that was recorded in the reopening of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans in 2006.

This week I got a new record. This week its a double 10 inch lp of Radioheads Kid A album. I got it for $20 and it was a great find. Although most likely their most computer created album, I still dig it. Actually it's one of my favourite Radiohead albums. I hope eventually to get all of Radioheads albums on vinyl but as I am a little bit late for the Radiohead craze, most of their albums are out of print. Which really means I'm gonna have to spend some money to get em all.

Bob Dylan

On Tuesday I went and saw Bob Dylan at the Air Canada Centre. The show was fantastic. The Foo Fighters opened up for them playing an acoustic set and closed their show with an excellent rendition of everlong. As for Bob, he is 65 and he was never known for his singing voice but at 65 he has embraced the raspy qualities. I find he really puts on an excellent blues feel to all his tunes now. The highlight for me was Summer Days/Summer Nights off the Love and Theft album. This was my second time seeing Dylan but the first time I was 15 so this one ment much more. I think I would pay to see Dylan time and time again if he keeps up with the bluesy tunes. Here's the setlist from the Toronto show. I still wish I could see him again tonite. But I just have wait a few days and put up with GUNS N ROSES or should I say AXL. Until then......................enjoi

Buffalo Bills vs Green Bay Packers

On Sunday I went to the Buffalo Bills game. They were playing against the Green Bay Packers. The end result was a 25-10 victory for the Bills but one hell of a good time. Imported Canadians were flowing down this CFL fans throat for the first time not as a home brew. The Ralph Wilson stadium was gigantic! Makes the Skydome look like a toy. Apparently holds something like 76,000 people. I got to see Brett Favre which was cool but for my first NFL experience. I would definitely do it again some time, not to mention Duey was going mental the whole time for his Packers. I also met a nice old man who told me stories as I got smashed. One of the wierdest things I have ever experience but fun as hell!

Today I got the Sam Roberts Band new album on vinyl. This album is called chemical city and is in the x2 lp format. This was limited to a release of 2300. Fantastic album from a band that could in my opinion take up residency as Canada's rock n roll band. They're a young bunch of guys who I think have a long career ahead of them, or at least I hope so!

I have finally finished the Green Day vinyl collection. I have purchases every 7, 10, 12 inch singles and picture discs as well as all of the albums on LP. I have finished this collection with the Dookie LP. I have been after this one for years and had to pay a hefty amount for it but its worth it to have the complete collection. Apparently they are coming out with a 7inch for The Saints are Coming Single with U2 so I will have to pick it up on CD and vinyl. I approximate that my Green Day Vinyl collection is probably worth around three grand by now so hopefully Green Day continues to be successful so that it will be worth more later. But until then....

My latest addition to the old record collection is Joe Strummers final album with the Mescaleroes. It was actually finished by then after he had died. Bought this puppy on EBay and have never seen it on vinyl before so I guess I got lucky. I just need Rock Art and X Ray Style on vinyl and then I have them all. This appears to be the year to finish collections. Its' all finally coming together, now I just need a house to store it all. To any Clash fans check this out. It is a very unique blend of genres with the legendary Strummer vocal.....RIP on this Friday the 13th

The Eraser LP Thom Yorke

The newest addition to my record collection is Thom Yorkes (Lead Singer and Writer of Radiohead) Lp The Eraser. This is a 12 inch record that I bought from www.awarestore.com. Imagine an album that is completely made on a computer and is about ten times more electronic then and Radiohead album. This is an excellent album to set the mood for various situations. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Radiohead.

Last Sunday I saw the Sam Roberts band from Montreal for the fifth time. This show was free at Georgian Downs Racetrack in Barrie/Innisfil and the show was opened by Matt Mayes and El Torpedo. Excellent sets by both bands. This was the first time I had heard Sam play new tunes off of Chemical City and it was great!!! Very psychedelic show and many musical interludes/jams that really showed the band musicianship. If you ever have a chance check him out, in my opinion he is one of Canada's best current songwriters and I could see him becoming Canada's next Gordon Lightfoot!! The song that stuck out the most was the Resistance from the Album Chemical City, they lyrics explain what he and his music is all about, so I have included them. Enjoi

Summer of Rock: Glenn Frey

Last night I continued my summer of rock! I went and saw Glenn Frey of the Eagles at Casino Rama in Orillia. Everyone has heard of the Eagles I am sure, and Glenn's setlist was dominated by such hits as Take it Easy, Lying Eyes, Take it to the Limit, The Heat is on, among many other hits that the crowd appeared to have heard based on the giant sing alongs that ensued. I saw this concert for free, which is great cause the Eagles as a group can command over $300 a ticket but now if I have the chance I will check them out no matter how much it costs! Believe it or not this man was a country hippie, just check out his mugshot for public drunkeness and possesion of illegal drugs.....Rock On Man.........Next Stop for the Summer of Rock...........?

Crosby Stills Nash and Young

Continuing on the summer of Rock, the next stop on the tour was last night to see CSNY, otherwise known individually as David Crosby (from the Byrds/Solo), Stephen Stills (from Buffalo Springfield/Solo), Graham Nash (from the Hollies/Solo) and Neil Young (from Buffalo Springfield/Solo). All these artists came from huge bands from the 1960's and have since recorded as solo performers as well as with CSNY. What this equates to is a huge catalogue of music that the band could draw upon for their concert. This is exactly what they did. The band played for 3 hours and played 33 songs. The first set was electric and focused mostly on politically charged anthems from Neil Young's "Living With War" album. The second set started off acoustically and focused on CSNY hits as well as their solo hits from over the years. Then the band went electric again and tore the ACC down. Some of the highlights were the performances of Woodstock, Wooden Ships, Teach Your Children, Our House, Ohio, Chicago, For What its Worth, Keep on Rockin' in the Free World, Guinevere, Long Time Comin', Military Madness, Lets Impeach the President, among countless other songs. I got no pictures from this concert because some asshole security guard took my camera and erased the pictures. Other then that it was a GREAT show to say the least and it was a night to remember for any hippie there. We hitched a ride down the hippie highway for three hours and it was sad when the trip was over, but hey maybe I'll try to get tickets to tonight's show! PS if you ever have a chance to see any of these guys perform, especially Neil Young, fork over the dough because it is well worth it, you will never forget that night!

Well the day started with a drinking session in the parking lot with Dirty T and then we were soon aboard a ferry floating towards an island of rock. This was a day of indie music at its finest. The day started with a performance by FEIST on of the most rockin' female singers I have seen in a long time. Then came the best part in my opinion BLOC PARTY from England. These guys made a four piece band sound like a 15 piece band. Vocals are all you can think with this band.....Amazing...definatley check these guys out, i'm sure you will see plenty more from them. Lastly BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE, came out with a 20 piece band and blew the show out. I havn't been to such a fun show in years, totally the feeling of a sixties Grateful Dead, Haight Ashbury jam session. I will see ya on Olympic Island next summer for another great time on the Island of Rock!

Well I now can finally say I have seen a Beatle. A couple nights ago I went and saw Ringo Starr and his All Star Band

at Casino Rama. The musicians in his band were Billy Squier on Guitar, Hammish on Bass, Edgar Winter on Sax and piano, Rod Argent (from the Zombies) on keyboards and Sheila E on Drums and off course Ringo on vocals as well as drums. It was a really fun show and I would suggest if you have the opportunity to check him out do it. The pictures are a little fuzzy as you can imagine how hard it is to sneak a picture in a Casino .

Although the pictures do not illustrate the true liveliness of the market, this is Carnaby Street. It is located in London, England and is where the 1960's hippie culture bought their famous clothes. Many people from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Byrds, etc all swarmed to Carnaby when in London to get a hold of the latest hippie fashion. To this day, Carnaby Street of London features some of the hippest and newest fashions from throughout the world.

This is a picture of 3 Saville Row which is located in London, England. Known as the former home of Apple Records and the site of the famous "rooftop session" in 1969 where the Beatles played their last live performance together as one. When you see what a small, residential-type street this is, you'll realize why that "concert" was so special.

Rock n Roll Stops Part 3: Abbey Road / Studio

This is Abbey Road which is located in Westminster England. This is where the Beatles famous Abbey Road album cover was shot. To the right of the famous walk way there is #3 Abbey Road Studios which was purchased by EMI in 1929. After this time period until now, Abbey Road Studio has been regarded as the Mecca of technologically advanced studios. Of course this is where in 1962, George Martin recorded the then unknown Liverpool band called the Beatles. Everyone knows they lived at Abbey Road for the next seven years. After the Beatles success at Abbey Road, such artists as Paul McCartney with is new band Wings and Pink Floyd came to record the albums, including Floyd's masterpiece; Dark Side of the Moon. Since the big rock boom many things have happened there; Lord of the Rings, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Arc and Harry Potter among many films have been scored and edited there. Historic Rock n Roll Places Part 2: The Dakotas

This is the place in New York City where John and Yoko lived. It was the Dakotas apartments right beside Central Park. Where I am standing in the picture is where John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman. There are also some pics of the Imagine memorial in Strawberry Fields nearby. Even 25 years later still people flock to the memorial....I guess the Beatles were more than your average band!

The second record I received today was Green Day's Second Full length release also from Lookout Records called Kerplunk. This was also later issued on CD and featured a few more songs. This was released in 1991 and Tre plays drums for most of the tracks on this one. My copy is still sealed and hard to find since Green Day are not printing any more of these for a while or maybe even again.

I received two new vinyls in the mail today. The First happens to be Green Days first full length release. This is titled 39/Smooth which was later reissued on CD as 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. This features Green Days first Drummer prior to Tre Cool and was released on Lookout Records in 1990.

Historic Rock n Roll Places: CBGBS

Here is the first installment of places in rock n roll history. The first stop is from CBGB's in New York City from my trip there In Feb of 2005. This can be traced back to one of the starting points of the American punk movement. Music from here such as The Ramones can be then traced to the development of British Punk Rock a little while later. The Ramones got their start here as well as other bands such as disco-rock band Blondie. It is still a daily used club but is now threatened with eviction notices because of a raise in rent. Rumours are flying that it will be rebuilt in Las Vegas or even Tokyo. These are pictures from outside the club and me on the very stage where the Ramones got their start.

Ok so When I am finally done posting all my god damn records I will get back to random shit but I still got lots of records to put up, so shut your eyes for a while if your getting bored there will be more stuff besides Green Day Vinyl Soon, I am just to busy with school to really think so this is easy. This is Green Days second EP title Slappy and was released on Lookout Records out of Berkeley. It has the songs Paper Lanterns, Why Do You Want Him, 409 in Your Coffemaker, and Operation ivy's Knowledge. On a more random note The Short Film NEWMARKET apparently has been received by Cannes Film festival, lets see if it will get shown...Believe!

1000 Hours EP

I just got pictures of all my vinyl at home and I thought I would add it up for all to see. The first is one of Green Days first recordings from the 1000 hours ep. This was released in 1989 on lookout records. It features the songs 1000 hours, Dry Ice, Only of You, The One I Want. You can still buy this one from lookoutrecords at the link above. It is a 7" 45 rpm record. There is much more to come.

Longview 10" Green Single

Today I received another vinyl in the mail. This is 10 inch single for longview. I bought it on eBay for like $40 which was probably not the best idea since I was in a bidding war and got excited and overbid. These appear to go for like $15 on eBay so don't jump to conclusions. I also bought a second When I come Around Picture disc 7" single so if anyone's interested I am willing to sell it, another impulsive buy since I already had it on the way. This record has longview on the A side and on the B side there is live versions of Fuck Off and Die and Christy Road.
